I feel like I’m getting good at planning and making my Paleo lunches for the workweek! No longer does Sunday appear as a daunting tower of endless to-dos striking fear into the hearts of procrastinators across the universe. With some planning and a little organization, Sundays can now run smoothly and even leave me with some time to relax.
What I have for you today is a great make-ahead seasoning that you could pull out of your cabinet anytime you’d like to add some spice to your meals! I used to buy the pre-packaged taco seasoning all the time but I recently noticed that it includes a bunch of extra ingredients that don’t really make much sense. Potato starch? Really? So, in my Paleo-eating determination, I found a recipe for taco seasoning and ran with it! I must admit that it doesn’t have the exact same taste as the packaged taco seasoning, so I’ve been playing with other ingredients to make my meals more flavorful. In any case, this is a good place to start. Feel free to add, subtract, or multiply ingredients to suit your taste. Here goes!
Start by gathering all the ingredients: chili powder, cumin, paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, oregano, and red pepper flakes.
If exact measurements tickle your fancy, knock yourself out. I just eyeballed all of my ingredients and dumped them into a container with an air-tight lid. Again, feel free to adjust the amount of any ingredient to taste.
I always had a thing for sand art when I was a kid. My poor mother had to stand by and watch me meticulously measure and pour multi-colored sand into crappy plastic containers at every fair and festival we went to. Looking back, it was the biggest waste of money ever but as a child I thought I was as talented as Picasso.
Snap on the air-tight lid and shake with determination.
There you have it. Taco seasoning minus all the filler.
Some other Paleo-approved condiments that would compliment this seasoning are here.
Until next time, practice Aloha!
